Corporate Social Responsibility

Mr. J. Tahija, the Group founder, believed that business has a duty to contribute to the well being of society and to protect the environment in which it operates. This belief was implemented long before the Indonesian government passed the New Company Law No. 40/2007 that requires all companies operating in or related to the natural resources sector to participate in corporate social responsibility.

Since inception, the Austindo Group has operated from the belief that our businesses will prosper only if the communities in which we operate also prosper. An ongoing ANJ Agri business partnership program to alleviate poverty among neighbouring communities focuses on educating farmers to improve their own palm oil crop yields. This empowers farmers to earn more through increased yields that could be sold to ANJ Agri. ANJ Agri has also contributed in the areas of health, education and infrastructure.

Other Group CSR programs include a tobacco farmer crop financing and quality control program that is an integrated part of PT GMIT’s tobacco leaf trading business in East Java.

In some instances, the Austindo Group cooperates with the Tahija Foundation to achieve Group CSR goals. Examples include the reconstruction of SD Negeri 54, a state school in Aceh destroyed by the tsunami, a dengue hemorrhagic fever control program in Yogyakarta, archeological works in Muntilan and Trowulan and an orang utan conservation program in East Kalimantan.
